Colorado Parks - Rocky Mountain National Park Special Uses Permits
Back to State Parks

The National Park Service will recover costs incurred in administering permits and monitoring the activities it authorizes. A special park use is a short-term activity that takes place in the park that: provides a benefit to an individual, group or organization rather than the public at large; requires written authorization and some degree of management control from the National Park Service in order to protect park resources and the public interest; is not prohibited by law or regulation; and is neither initiated, sponsored nor conducted by the National Park Service.

Whenever the National Park Service establishes a new permit fee for a use or activity that has been permitted in the park before but never charged a fee, the park will notify the public sixty days in advance of the new fee taking effect. In Rocky Mountain National Park, fees are charged for the following Special Park Uses: Special Events, Filming and Photography, Weddings, and activities authorized by Incidental Business Permits. Incidental Business Permit fees are not new at Rocky Mountain National Park.

Special Events Permit Fees
A permit is required for activities such as sporting events, public spectator attractions, entertainment or ceremonies. The administrative fee is $200.

Filming Permits Fees
A permit is required if the filming, video taping, sound recording or still photography involves the use of a model (or any on-camera talent), set, prop, or when the filming, video taping, sound recording, or still photography could result in damage to park resources or significant disruption of normal visitor use. The administrative fee is $200.

For both of these permits, additional charges may be assessed if additional costs are incurred including maintenance costs and/or monitoring by a ranger(s).
